The Fred Arbogast Hula Popper was introduced in the late 1940’s and continues to be a popular bait to this day. A very common lure, it is collectable because of its ease of acquisition and numerous colors. A common lure. Good older examples can fetch $10-20 but most sell for under $10.
A 1950’s catalog describes the Hula Popper as “has everything every fisherman could ask for in a top water lure. Can be plunked, popped, twitched or jerked to make noise or commotion on surface. Killer for big bass. Makes bass fighting mad. Equipped with small skirt.”
