The South Bend Woodpecker (Catalog Series 923-926) are generally found with a red head and white or luminous body. The body length is approx 4 3/4 inches, 3 treble hooks as shown below and a smaller 3 inch model with two treble hooks. It was produced from the early 1910’s to the mid to late 1930’s. It has been reported there is also a fairly rare frog finish version. A catalog of the day states the South Bend Woodpecker is “A surface bait with concave head which causes a ripple to attract fish” Depending on age and condition these lures can fetch $150.00. It also came in a weedless version.
